Marcel Huveneers - Osteopathie Herengracht Amsterdam

Marcel Huveneers

"Osteopaths are whole-body specialists"

I have been practicing as an osteopath in Valkenburg aan de Geul since 2007, and since 2026, I am also practicing at Osteopathie Herengracht. Osteopathy can offer a solution for patients who have been told by their doctor or physical therapist that nothing more can be done for them. Patients visit the clinic with a wide variety of complaints, including back and neck pain, headaches, abdominal pain, and chronic issues. My treatment focuses on restoring mobility: using gentle manipulative techniques, I restore the body's natural movement. This safe method of treatment is suitable for everyone, from babies to the elderly.

I started playing handball when I was nine years old, and frequent sports injuries often put me on the treatment table myself. That sparked my interest in physical therapy, which I went on to study after high school. After graduating, I worked in Germany — which, unfortunately, also meant the end of my handball career, since the training demands to stay competitive at Eredivisie level had intensified. Shortly after, I moved to a practice in Heerlen, which I took over in 2002 together with three colleagues, forming a physical therapy partnership. During that time, I was studying osteopathy in Antwerp alongside my work, a course I completed in 2006 with my thesis. Since then, I have held the D.O.-MRO title as a registered osteopath with the Dutch professional association for osteopaths. A referral from a general practitioner is not required for osteopathy.

Sports have always remained a constant thread: after several years of squash, I moved on to marathon running, triathlon, and kickboxing. As part of my mandatory continuing education, I completed a specialized program in Osteopathy and Sports, and my internship during that program connected me to motorsport. Many other (elite) athletes — including tennis players, golfers, football players, and indoor sports athletes — regularly visit my practice, particularly for injury prevention, since prevention is better than cure. I also write training programs for competitive runners and coach strength athletes and bodybuilders to optimize their training.
