Marcel Huveneers - Osteopathie Herengracht Amsterdam

Marcel Huveneers

"Osteopaths are whole-body specialists"

My name is Marcel Huveneers. I have been practicing as an osteopath in Valkenburg aan de Geul since 2007, and since 2026, I am also practicing at Amsterdam Herengracht. Osteopathy can offer a solution for patients who have been told by their doctor or physical therapist that nothing more can be done for them. Patients visit the clinic with a wide variety of complaints, including back and neck pain, headaches, abdominal pain, and chronic issues. My treatment focuses on restoring mobility: using gentle manipulative techniques, I restore the body's natural movement. This safe method of treatment is suitable for everyone, from babies to the elderly.

I started playing handball when I was nine years old. Due to various sports injuries, I frequently found myself on the treatment table. I immediately found physical therapy to be a wonderful profession and decided to study it after completing high school. After graduating in physical therapy, I started working in Germany. Unfortunately, this also marked the end of my handball career; I spent a lot of time in Germany, and the training demands to stay competitive at the premier league (Eredivisie) level had intensified.

Within a few months, I moved from Germany to a practice in Heerlen. In 2002, I took over this practice with three other practitioners and started a physical therapy partnership. Around that time, I was already studying osteopathy in Antwerp.

I completed my studies and wrote my thesis in 2006. Since then, I hold the D.O. - MRO title, meaning I am a registered osteopath with the Dutch Professional Association for Osteopaths (NRO). In that same year, I started my osteopathy practice in Valkenburg aan de Geul. Patients with complaints such as back and neck pain, and chronic issues visited my clinic, often referred by their general practitioner. However, a referral is not required for osteopathy.

My affinity for sports has always remained strong. After a few years of playing squash, I transitioned to running marathons, triathlons, and kickboxing. As a registered osteopath, continuing education is mandatory. Among other qualifications, I completed a specialized program in Osteopathy and Sports. My internship during this sports specialization connected me to motorsport, and many other (elite) athletes—including tennis players, golfers, football players, and indoor sports athletes—regularly visit my practice, particularly for injury prevention. After all, prevention is better than cure. Additionally, I write training programs for competitive runners and coach strength athletes and bodybuilders to optimize their training sessions.
